Every live session on TestingBot records what happened while you were poking at the app, so you can hand a colleague the evidence instead of a description. Device logs stream in real time. Android logcat and iOS syslog appear next to the device while you use it, so a crash shows its stacktrace the moment it happens. A screen recording of the whole session is kept with the test, alongside any screenshots you take. The Mobile Inspector shows the live layout hierarchy and hands you XPath, XCUITest and Espresso locators you can paste straight into an automated test. Change GPS location, system language, orientation and network conditions mid-session, then keep testing without restarting the device. ## Emulator or real device? Both are useful, and TestingBot gives you both. The honest answer is that they answer different questions. An Android emulator or iOS simulator is fast, cheap and fine for checking that a screen renders and a flow does not crash. It runs your app against a desktop CPU and a synthetic GPU, so it will not tell you how the app behaves on a mid-range phone with two years of wear, a throttled radio and a battery at 12%. A physical device tells you about the things that only exist in hardware - camera and sensor behaviour, biometrics, push notifications, real network handover, thermal throttling and the specific rendering quirks of a particular vendor's Android skin. Most teams we work with run emulators in CI on every commit and physical devices before a release goes out. TestingBot provides both emulators/simulators, as well as physical devices. Emulators are good if you want to test basic functionality, but they do not provide the same experience as a real device. We recommend using both real devices and emulators, depending on your needs. ### Where are the devices located? TestingBot offers physical devices located in Belgium (Europe). ### Which apps can I test? You can test any app that is available in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. You can also upload your own app (.ipa or .apk) and test it on a real device. ### Do I need the Android SDK to test an Android app online? No. The device runs in our datacenter and you drive it from a browser tab, so there is no Android SDK, no emulator image and no local toolchain to keep up to date. Uploading a build and opening it on a phone is the whole setup. ### Can I test an APK online for free? You can start on a free trial rather than a free product. Signing up gives you trial minutes on real devices with no credit card and nothing to install locally, which is enough to upload a build and put it through a real phone. Paid plans start after the trial. ### Can I test an iOS app on a real iPhone from my browser? Yes.
