macOS Sequoia Testing

2024-06-28

TestingBot now offers macOS Sequoia beta testing for automated, visual and manual tests. This update allows developers to run tests on the upcoming macOS release and ensure their applications are ready for the newest macOS that Apple will release.

Testing on upcoming releases of operating systems like macOS Sequoia ensures that your websites are compatible with the latest and greatest from Apple, before it becomes mainstream. This proactive approach helps to catch and resolve compatibility issues early, giving you ample time to fix and improve your product before the general audience ever notices.

Even though macOS 15 is still in beta, there are some features already included in this preview release.

Safari 18 changes

Perhaps the most interesting part for our audience, the changes and improvements in Apple's upcoming Safari 18 web browser.

Safari Highlights

Highlights is a new AI feature that can be accessed via a new site menu icon that will appear in the address bar. Clicking a highlight will show relevant information about a site. This feature was originally named "Intelligent Search" during its development period but will now be called Highlights.

Machine learning is used by Apple to summarise pages or the entire website, to give the user a quick overview without having to process the entire page. It is expected this feature will only be enabled, for English speaking (reading) users only, for now.

The Reader feature has been improved as well. This will now generate a table of contents and a high-level summary, allowing readers to quickly understand what the article is about, without delving deep into the text.

A big batch of Safari bug fixes is included, fixing issues with animations, accessibility, Safari extensions and more.

Video playback has been improved as well, with an improved picture-in-picture experience and Video Viewer, allowing you to easily watch a video in larger dimensions.

Seamless integration between iOS and macOS

iPhone Mirroring is a new feature that will allow you to view and control your iPhone device from your macOS machine. This is a bit similar in what TestingBot already offers with Manual Device Testing - a live and interactive view of physical iPhones and iPads in the cloud.

Next to mirroring, your iPhone notifications will now show up on your macOS machine. Dragging and dropping files between your Mac and iOS device will now work as well.

Improved tiling

Apple continues to improve its window tiling support, allowing you to better arrange the windows on your desktop.
